Motorcycle TheoryTest

So you want a full motorcycle licence and are considering taking the A1, A2 or Direct Access Schemes. However, before you take any of these courses you must ensure you have passed a theory test.

The theory test is made up of two parts – multiple choice and hazard perception. If you pass one and fail the other then you fail the whole test and will need to take both parts again.

In the multiple choice section you are given a series of questions with a range of possible answers that appear on your computer scheme. You have to select the correct answer, while bearing in mind that some questions may require more than one correct answer. In order to pass you must answer at least 43 out of 50 questions correctly in the 57 minutes allotted.

From there you take a hazard perception test, which is a series of video clips on a computer screen with every day road scenes that contain at least one developing hazard. You must respond to the hazard as quickly as possible and press the mouse button as soon as you see it developing. In a motorcycle theory test you must get a mark of at least 44 out of 75 to pass this section.

At the end of your theory test you can leave the test room and you’ll later be given your test results by the staff.
